A simple way to brighten up your day.

We all get caught up in our daily mundane tasks and can feel like we have to constantly rush somewhere and push ourselves to do more.

Sometimes it might seem endless and the work and family life pressures can begin to appear relentless. Like there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

Do you feel like you are rushed off your feet sometimes?

Feeling like this too often for a long period of time can have a detrimental effect on our mental health and well-being. Some people report not being able to switch off and begin to suffer from insomnia, which, of course, makes the matters worse. Although they can get better with time and effort too.

Whilst there are different approaches and ways of treating all those issues mentioned above, I tend to agree that prevention is better than cure. Or if one is cured it's best to keep it that way without sliding into the old ways.

Here I would like to share one simple and easy trick that works wonders for me when I start feeling the pressure.

I call it 'the kindness moment' - as opposed to 'the moment of madness'. It can be practised at any time of day or even night if something is keeping one awake. Simply stop whatever you are thinking and think kindly about anyone that comes into your mind, absolutely anyone: yourself, your kids, your pets, parents, friends, etc. If the person that pops first into your mind is a bit difficult to think kindly of, invite the next available candidate into your thoughts. And that's it, that's all you need to do, simply shine the light of kindness for a few seconds and then notice how the load on your mind will become lighter.

Keep doing that as often as you can remember and then you will start noticing how these 'kindfulness' moments will spill out into kind actions, like simply smiling at a frowning stranger in a car park and getting your smile back or giving way on the road. Because kindness can spreads from one person to another like a bug, and such a very good and healthy bug too.
